It seems impossible to actually say, but it is officially 2021. As I rang in the New Year last night, and officially said goodbye to the chaos that was 2020, I started to take stock of not all the ways in which 2020 had disappointed, but what I should be thankful for from the past twelve months. Without a doubt, the people who have helped this small business owner survive through pandemic shutdown are those who make up this shop family I have built. Each and every day I have had the privilege of laughing with my stylists, crying with my stylists, and watching the creativity and care they take with their clients bring smiles to the faces of others. We have seen more of each other than we have our own families, and we have been there for each other through some of the hardest times anyone can remember. As I was mulling all of this over in the wee hours of the first day of 2021, I realized that I hadn’t formally introduced the Wayward crew on the blog. So to start, here is a picture of the whole group together, taken a couple of months ago on Halloween. It was so wonderful to get to take a night to be together and let our freak flags fly!

I’ve mentioned each of them before on the blog, and many of you know truly how talented each of these stylists is but Hazel (as Lydia Deetz), Haley May (as Sally) and Justin (as Edward Scissorhands) have each added their own unique spirit to the shop. Each in their own way, they have sparked creativity, provided expertise to their beloved clients, and in the process provided me with the fortitude to weather this pandemic storm and come out stronger on the other side. We have become a family through laughter and tears. I am there for them more than I ever thought possible as someone who never possessed much of a maternal instinct, and they are absolutely there to return the favor. I would literally help them bury a body, should the need ever arise.

So over the next week, as we begin 2021, I thought I would spend some time talking about each of the Wayward stylists and the qualities that make them expert hair stylists, but also my favorite people. I will start with Hazel (because she was the first to join me at the shop when it opened), then Haley May, then Justin. So stay tuned this week to find out about each of the stylists at The Wayward Hairdresser, and don’t worry, I plan to include photos of some of their best work.

Looking forward to bragging on my little shop kiddies.
