How to Get the Most Natural Tones - Aveda Hair Color

People, both inside the salon and in my personal life, always ask me the key to a good hair color. In my opinion, the answer to this question has two very distinct but equally important parts. First, you need to make sure that the product your stylist is using is of the highest quality and made from ingredients that won’t do damage to your hair. You also should consult with an expert stylist who has been well trained and has experience so that the best possible results can be achieved.

Make sure your hair is colored with a quality product

In our salon, The Wayward Hairdresser, we almost exclusively use Aveda brand hair color on our clients (and on ourselves on a slow day, haha). When I started the salon a few years ago we used several different kinds of hair color to achieve different results for our clients, but over time all the stylists and myself at the Brooklyn salon began to naturally gravitate more frequently towards Aveda products.

There are many factors that make Aveda a superior hair color but in my opinion one of the most important is the quality of the ingredients that Aveda puts into their products. All Aveda hair color is completely Vegan, which isn’t always the case with alternative hair colors. Believe it or not, most hair colors either contain animal products or have been tested on animals. Aveda is one of only two major American brands that has been certified by PETA (people for the ethical treatment of animals) to be Vegan. Aside from being Vegan, 93% of the ingredients in Aveda hair color are naturally derived. Though there is potential for any hair product to cause damage to your hair, the fact that most of the ingredients in Aveda color are natural means that they are much less likely to cause damage.

Another reason the Wayward crew have chosen to exclusively use Aveda hair color are the incredible results we see on our clients. Our goal is always to make sure that our clients walk out of the salon feeling incredible about the way their hair looks. Aveda salon hair color seems to deliver on this promise every single time. The dimension and depth of color that a stylist can achieve with Aveda products are vast and extraordinary. From highlights to lowlights and single process to balayage, the variations of beautiful and natural looking color (or not so natural if that’s what you’re into) is amazing.

But don’t take my word for it, here are some recent results achieved in the salon using Aveda hair color:

And the best part of these results is that the health of the hair is either maintained or even improved because Aveda color is so nourishing and conditioning. The shine and bounce each of these clients walked out of the salon with is not short lived, because Aveda products are specially formulated to be fade resistant much longer than the average salon hair color.

Choose a stylist who is well trained to deliver the results you want to achieve

It is difficult to say whether a good product or a good stylist is more important to a well colored head of hair, so why choose. Achieving a nuanced and multidimensional color that looks natural and complements your skin tone and hair style is tricky and should not be attempted out of a box in your bathroom. Nor should you trust your tresses to someone who has little or no experience in hair color technique because one wrong move could be the difference between a color that looks unnatural and damaged and brittle hair. A mistake in hair color can be expensive to fix, and sometimes can be impossible even for the best stylist.

At our Aveda salon in Brooklyn we pride ourselves on being expert hair colorists. We are constantly keeping educated on new styles, trends and techniques so that we can deliver the best results to our clients. If you are ready for a change, and think a new color may be just the thing, make an appointment today.
